How to take a good passport photo at home
Background: stand in front of a plain white or light wall, about half a metre away to avoid shadows.
Light: face a window in daylight so your face is evenly lit. Avoid harsh overhead light.
Camera: ask someone else to take it at eye level from about 1–1.5 metres. Selfies distort the face.
Pose: look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open.
Avoid: caps, sunglasses, filters and beauty modes. Most applications reject edited photos.
Requirements differ between countries and applications. Before printing, check the official instructions for size, background colour and how much of the photo your face should fill.
Printing tips
For a photo shop, the 4 × 6 inch sheet is the cheapest option: one standard print gives you several photos.
At home, print the PDF on photo paper with the scale set to Actual size.
Check one photo with a ruler before cutting the rest.

What size is a passport photo?
It depends on the country and the application. 35 × 45 mm and 2 × 2 inch (51 × 51 mm) are two very common sizes. Always check the exact size in your application's official instructions; you can enter any size with "Custom size".
How do I print the photos at the right size?
Download the PDF and print it with the scale set to "Actual size" or 100%, not "Fit to page". Photo shops can print the 4 × 6 inch sheet directly.
How many photos fit on one sheet?
The tool fits as many as possible and shows the number in the Copies menu. For example, 35 × 45 mm photos fit 6 on a 4 × 6 inch sheet.
Can I change the background to white?
Not yet. For the best result, take the photo in front of a plain white or light-coloured wall in good, even light.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device, so your photo stays private.
